Einstein said, "Imagination is more important than knowledge.” - can you imagine that... Imagination has been the secret of all great inventions throughout history!

We tend to lose sight of how powerful the imagination is as we grow older and forget to use this valuable 'invisible' tool. We often confuse imagination with knowledge, while a strong imagination is far more important... often it is not well-developed nor correctly used. When we do not stimulate our imaginations it leads to lack of control over our lives.

Imagination creates fuller, richer, more rewarding, fun and enjoyable experiences! Wake it up, stretch it, sharpen it - activate and loosen up your imagination... empower it by using it.

What is the imagination?

Everyone has an imagination! Imagination is your ability observe real or imaginary images or scenes in your mind, which can include visuals, sounds, verbalisations, tastes, smells, feelings and/or sensations. While some people may have a weak visual imagination, their other imagination senses might be strong.

Your mind constantly uses your imagination in various ways - whilst talking, thinking, planning, reading, writing, playing, daydreaming and more...

  • Let go: Letting go is usually the first step to something original... The imagination flourishes when the mind is free from automated thinking habits focused on preconceptions, appearances and "what ifs". Imagine how you think lateral free-form thoughts that are outside the box.

  • Games and Puzzles: Thomas Edison was a great believer that games and word puzzles are excellent creative exercises. Chess, scrabble, crossword, jumbled-word, pictionary, charades and various other games force you to envision moves that depend on what your opponent does, and to think in terms of adding, subtracting and modifying various combinations of letters. Imagine how intensely games will flex your imagination!

  • Sport and physical activity: Exercise, especially when it involves strategy, like tennis provide great training for the imagination. Realise that many things start in the imagination, without thinking - this is how we program our brain cells automatically... Make a mental picture of what you are going to do, without thinking about it...
  • Inspiration: The imagination feeds on the materials we present to it. Engage with materials that inspire you towards shaping creative ideas, taking action and seeking inwardly for new inner visions, balance, voices and feelings. The following materials are great food for the imagination:

  • Music: Play music in the background - something loud, fast, slow, classical, jazzy, uplifting or stirring - to help create an imaginative state of mind. Imagine how tempo and style of music will infuse your imagination.

  • Notes: Jot down creative solutions and ideas! Imagine viewing your notes and how it helps you remember and inspires new ideas...

  • Vision collage: Create a colorful collage from pictures or illustrations that really draws you to it, that delights or intrigues you, or that you find really beautiful, mystical or magical and has an energy that sparks your vitality! Imagine how something about a picture can draw you, focus your attention and inspire you.

  • Reading: Reading materials on a kaleidoscope of topics provide excellent creative exercise - people, places, science, humor, sports, gardening, travel, gossip, fashion, comics, motoring, arts, etc.... Also try to read several different viewpoints on the same subject. Imagine how your imagination will profit from reading...

  • Travel: Traveling (real or arm-chair) broadens and refreshes your perspective by exposing you to a new outlook, people, customs, ideas and ways of living. Imagine how every culture provide a unique way of looking at common situations...

  • Scrap book: Build up a treasury of your most prized inspirations and created magnificent works of creativity. Imagine turning page after page which fill you with wondrous and delightful imaginings...

  • Writing: Writing forces you to use your imagination - to develop the power of the inner vision, use your imagination rather than words. Keeping a diary could be a great way to creatively record your experiences.

  • Network: Associate yourself with people who are creative, fun to talk to and share experiences, have a keen sense of interest in life and can stimulate your imagination. Connect with these people via clubs, social networking, online media, interest groups, sport activities, work and family. Allow everyone to freely contribute creative ideas and use their ideas as a springboard to launch your own imagination. Imagine yourself surrounded by people and stories that spark your imagination!

  • Intuition: Attunement to your intuition improves your capacity to trust your instincts. Imagine how you follow your intuition about go-ahead signals and take action.

  • Beliefs: How much do you believe in illusions? Choose your beliefs carefully - make the 'impossible' possible in your life - if you can imagine it, you can create it. It is incredible what you can achieve through imagination... Imagine believing that what you want to do can be done.

  • Habits: Some believe that your imagination is more powerful than your willpower! Therefore it might be a powerful way to conquer limiting habits, arrest doubts, and go beyond the limits of everyday thinking. Raise your standards - imagine. Imagine how you reframe what is acceptable to you...

  • Strategy: Invest a few minutes each day to be creative and strategise. Imagine how you set yourself up, line yourself up, engage yourself...

  • Alternatives: Explore situations in your imagination and invent or discover alternatives within your imagination. Imagine searching for and finding insight and understanding.

  • Challenge: Allow your imagination to advance into a world of unknown possibilities. Imagine applying your imagination to challenges.

  • Children: Interacting with children gets you in touch with your imagination - their world is filled with fantasy, association games and exploration of the unknown. Imagine a happy and fun time when you were a child...

  • Support: Sometimes you may need help with the things we cannot do alone. Generally, people love to contribute to dreams of others when they understand how they can help. Inspire others to walk into your vision! Imagine how you provide others with the insight needed to achieve what may have seemed impossible.

  • Collaborators: Find collaborators rather than dictators and your imagination will flourish! Imagine how the right people help you with achieving an audacious goal.

  • In touch with reality: By learning about and experiencing the real world firsthand, we gain the depth and power to express those timeless imaginings which resonates intensely with many - it is beautiful, complex and fascinating, as distorted as it may seem... Stars are not holes in the black sky... or are they?

  • Art: Express your imagination! Open up flights of fancy! Bring it into reality via your pen, paintbrush, clay, wood, movement and sounds... put you creative machinery to work! Discoveries and fresh ideas can and evolve into entire new art-forms, pushing forward the bounds of human imagination. Imagine you are a spectator of a new form of art... or the creator!

  • Hobbies: Many hobbies provide a serious creative workout for your imagination! Examples are amateur radio, electronics, computers... Imagine having a stimulating hobby ...

  • Self-reliance: Depend on your own ability to think and become proficient at thinking up new ideas. Imagine doing it yourself - being empowered – having the desire and expectation to flourish!

  • Curious: Always seek discovery - expect discoveries and unexpected results. Imagine exploring ideas as far as you can go...

    Practice

    Practicing your imagination with all the senses strengthens the imagination and keeps it fit. Exercises will also improve your ability to focus and gain the power to shape and improve your life. Imagine finding ample time every day for practicing your imagination!

    Just let it run wild. You can slip through to touch, to glimpse and eventually immerse yourself in a dimension of reality called imagination in which to experience all at length and height and width and other dimensions of life. Just imagine and imagine what is behind these things you imagine.
